That night, some prisoners, including an inmate named Drax, come to kill Gamora. Quill manages to convince Drax that, since she had betrayed Ronan, he would most likely come for her allowing Drax to exact his revenge.

The next day, Rocket devises a plan to break out of the Kyln, which went awry when Groot completed the last step first. Nonetheless, the group manages to escape.

On the Milano, Gamora explains to the group that the third party to whom she was planning to give the Orb was offering a large reward for it, and that if they help her bring it to him, she would split the reward with them.

The Collector reveals that the Orb is an Infinity Stone , an item of immeasurable power that destroys all but the most powerful beings who wield it.

Suddenly, the Collector's tormented assistant grabs the Stone, triggering an explosion that engulfs his collection.

Meanwhile, Drax, drunk and wanting revenge, summons Ronan, who arrives with Nebula and an army of Sakaarans. Gamora attempts to flee with Orb only to be pursued by Nebula who blast her ship and retrieves the Orb leaving her sister to die in space.

Star-Lord, unwilling to watch Gamora die, sends Yondu his coordinates and exits his pod giving Gamora his mask to help her survive.

The pair are rescued by the Ravagers and Yondu who Quill manages to talk out of killing him by telling him he knows where there Orb is and that they can work together to retrieve it.

Suddenly Rocket, Drax, and Groot threaten to attack the Eclector in an attempt to rescue them, luckily Star-Lord manages to defuse the situation.

On the ship Star-Lord tells the group that he has a plan to stop Ronan and tells the others that even though it likely means certain death they cannot simply stand back as Ronan kills billions of innocent people.

The entire group agrees and so Star-Lord calls Rhomann Dey and tells them of his plan. As the Nova Corps hold off the large ship by creating a forcefield, Quill, Gamora, Groot, and Drax fight their way to Ronan and blast him with the Hadron Enforcer; however, Ronan is unaffected by the attack and easily defeats the group.

Before he can kill them, Rocket comes crashing in with his own ship heavily damaging the ship and causing it to crash.

The group is protected from serious injury by Groot who shields them seemingly at the cost of his life, making a dome around the team.

As Ronan emerges from the ship unharmed, mocking the Guardians, Star-Lord distracts Ronan by dancing to "O-o-h Child" by the Five Stairsteps, allowing Drax and Rocket to destroy his hammer and allowing Star-Lord to grab the Orb, which almost kills him.

Gamora, Rocket, and Drax come to his aid and the four use the Orb's power to blast Ronan, killing him. Quill tricks Yondu into taking a container supposedly containing the stone but actually contained a Troll doll.

As the Ravagers leave Xandar, they remarked that it turned out well that they did not deliver Star-Lord to his father as a child.

Star-Lord's group, now known as the Guardians of the Galaxy, have their criminal records expunged by the Corps, and Star-Lord learned that he is only half-human, his father being part of an ancient species.

Star-Lord finally opened the last present he received from his mother; a second cassette tape filled with her favorite songs. The Guardians leave in the rebuilt Milano accompanied by a twig recovered from Groot, which has already started regrowing.

During the fight, Quill and the Guardians were badly beaten until Quill and Rocket forced the creature to look up, exposing a neck wound that Gamora widened to kill the creature.

Ayesha made various disparaging comments about Quill's hybrid status that offended him but he said nothing. Later, after apologising to Gamora for supposedly flirting with Ayesha something she didn't care about Drax told him he had no chance with her since "he was a dancer and Gamora was not".

The Guardians were then attacked by a Sovereign fleet and discovered that Rocket had stolen the batteries from them. Quill and Rocket tried to pilot the ship to safety, but their arguments over who was the more capable pilot caused them to run into a Sovereign fleet trap.

Ego revealed himself as the one who destroyed the Sovereign ships and that he was Quill's father. Ego explained that he had been searching for Quill after Yondu failed to deliver him as he was paid to do so, though initially sceptical, Gamora persuaded Quill that he should go with Ego to see 'Ego's planet'.

On the way, Mantis revealed her ability to feel the feelings of others and demonstrated by touching Quill and revealing his crush on Gamora to everyone in the room.

When Drax burst into hysterics at the announcement, Quill became defensive arguing that it wasn't that funny though he was clearly embarrassed.

He revealed that the planet was a part of him and his human form was an avatar body he walked in to explore the Galaxy and seek other lifeforms.

Ego explained how he met Quill's mother and fell in love with her whilst visiting Earth and hired Yondu to bring Quill to him.

Quill asked Ego why he then chose to leave his mother behind, and Ego revealed that he had to return to his planet otherwise his avatar body would die after prolonged distance from his main source.

Ego then helped Quill to access his abilities as a Celestial which allowed him to create objects greatly exciting Quill who then proceeded to play catch with his father using a ball he had created.

Quill later danced with Gamora trying to persuade her that she felt something for him too, something she denied.

Gamora revealed her suspicions about the planet as Mantis seemed unusually fearful but Quill argued that he had finally found his family and demanded to know why she couldn't be happy for him.

Gamora replied that she thought he had found his family before walking off due to Quill's arrogance at being half-a-god.

Ego came to comfort Quill afterwards and revealed that he was immortal due to his Celestial DNA and offered to bring him into what he had been working on.

Excited, Quill accepted which was overheard by Mantis. Ego explained what he had not told him earlier; that when he found life he was disappointed by it and planned to improve it by planting parts of himself in every planet he went to.

His plan was to bring all the planets together to become a part of himself. He hypnotized Quill into helping him before continuing.

He revealed that on every planet he went to he would impregnate one woman as to activate the parts of himself needed two Celestial beings.

Ego revealed that he had loved Meredith Quill very much and that had he visited her again he would have stayed on Earth and never finished his plan - so he had caused the cancer in her body to kill her.

This revelation caused Quill to break free of the hypnosis whereupon he shot his father repeatedly in a blind rage. Ego repaired himself and attacked Quill forcibly activating the Celestial power inside him and triggering the parts of himself that began destroying the planets.

Mantis explained that Ego's only weakness was his brain at the core of the planet, so Quill and Yondu piloted the industrial craft underground tunnelling through the planet surface.

They arrived to find Ego's brain sealed in a core that was connected to the rest of the planet and began cutting into it knowing they only had a limited time before Ego found them.

Death refused to take Thanos with her and he flew into a rage, vowing to destroy the universe. Peter and Nova volunteered to distract him, managing to keep him in the Cancerverse long enough for it to collapse and presumably kill all three of them.

A returned Drax joined the brawl against the Mad Titan. After Star-Lord started losing control over the Cube, Thanos offered for Quill to give him the Cube, as he could control it to get back to Earth Thanos then reappeared, and killed Star-Lord from behind, but Star-Lord also returned.

The heroes discovered death was impossible in the Cancerverse, as one would merely respawn in another location. After killing Thanos for a third time, the heroes' discussion on what to do was interrupted by the arrival of the resurrected Cancerverse's Revengers.

Following an extremely long battle, the Revengers got hold of the Cosmic Cube. However, Rider couldn't come along as he was acting as the door between the two universes.

As his last wish, Nova asked Peter not to tell Gamora about this event, as it would devastate her. Peter Quill, Drax and Thanos were then returned to Earth Peter disappeared after the Cancerverse events until a reunion with his father J'son alerted him that the council of galactic empires had decided that Earth was off-limits for all empires from now on.

This pushed Peter to reform the Guardians of the Galaxy in order to protect Earth from many invasions that were coming thanks to that new rule.

They aided the Avengers to fight Thanos, who had once again targeted Earth following his return. Thanos managed to get a Cosmic Cube from the Army, with which he escaped to Moord, the homeland of the Badoon.

The Guardians arrived at the Avengers Tower and informed the Avengers about the situation. After Thanos apparently killed the Elders of the Universe , to impose his supremacy, [21] he became one with the Cosmic Cube and killed the Avengers and the Guardians as well.

But actually they were sent to the Cancerverse along with the Elders. While there, Tony Stark found that Thanos' weapon wasn't actually a Cosmic Cube and that it had defects.

They bargained with the Collector in exchange for a weapon capable of deactivating the "Cube" and return to Earth.

The Avengers and the Guardians would let Thanos be defeated by the Elders. With the help of other members of the Avengers, Thanos was defeated and sent to punishment by the Elders.

Peter and his team intercepted a conversation that revealed the Shi'ar were planing on abducting a teenage Jean Grey and put her on trial for the crimes of her older self.

Peter decided to go and alert the X-Men but arrived too late, as the Shi'ar had already taken Jean. Both teams were subsequently assaulted by a Shi'ar ship, but saved just in time by the Starjammers , [29] who joined the heroes' mission.

They arrived to Chandilar , the Shi'ar homeworld, and confronted the Imperial Guard. Soon after, Star-Lord and the Guardians were individually captured by different galactic empires to be dealt with separately, as planned by J'son and the Spartoi, who wanted his son to join him in his place as the prince of Spartax, but also to make him pay for his crimes against the Spartoi Empire.

Before fleeing from Spartax, Peter took advantage of J'son's live broadcast of Quill's trail and exposed his father's corruption, inciting a rebellion [34] After recovering his ship, Star-Lord and Captain Marvel proceeded to recover their teammates, except the newly-inducted Agent Venom , who went into hiding after escaping a run-in with the Skrulls.

After escaping from Spartax, Peter decided to search for a very powerful gem to settle his feud with Thanos once and for all.

After sneaking into an orphanage to search for the gem he left behind by the Spartax, Peter was confronted by a group of Badoon bounty hunters.

Outnumbered, Peter was captured by the Badoon. While imprisoned, Peter discovered that a mysterious "Mr. Knife" placed the bounty on his head and that he also had plans for Earth.

Soon after, Peter escaped the ship with the gem only to come face-to-face with the commander of the Spartax Royal Guard who turned out to be the sister he didn't know he had, Victoria.

The siblings escaped the planet together, narrowly avoiding death. When back on her ship, Victoria offered half of the money to Peter but he declined it, saying he was in it for the adventure.

During this time Peter kept in touch with Kitty Pryde, usually calling her while being imprisoned. Powered-up with the Mandalay Gem , Star-Lord confronted Thanos on the Earth's moon, and managed to subdue him after a furious fight.

However, Star-Lord was convinced not to execute Thanos, due to the resultant release of energy being capable of destroying the Earth.

Reluctantly, Peter let him go, dropped the gem and decided to change his life and start pursuing a relationship with Kitty instead.

Soon after finding Agent Venom, the Guardians came into contact with the Klyntar , the original race of symbiotes.

Upon returning from the planet of Klyntar, Star-Lord received the news that after his father's overthrow he had been elected as the new president of Spartax.

Following the news of his unexpected political career, Peter decided to keep a low profile. He discovered that Mr.

Knife's group of mercenaries, the Slaughter Squad were ordered to hunt him down, and also that Knife was looking for the mysterious Black Vortex.

Both escaped and went straight to Spartax where they spent some time at the Savage orphanage, the home of some allies of Peter. After convincing Kitty to stay in space with him, she convinced him steal the Black Vortex from J'son to annoy him.

Now fearing of such powerful item being in J'son's hand, Star-Lord and Kitty stole the artifact. They turned to both the Guardians of the Galaxy and the X-Men for help.

The cosmically-empowered Slaughter Squad, now calling themselves Slaughter Lords, pinned the heroes down in order to retrieve the Black Vortex.

While not outnumbered, the heroes where outmatched. During the battle, Gamora submitted to the Black Vortex's power, giving the Guardians and the X-Men the necessary edge to escape to Spartax's moon.

Kitty opposed him, claiming that such incredible powers could corrupt them. Both Beast [45] and Angel submitted. The immense power corrupted them and Gamora, who betrayed their fellow allies when they tried to destroy the Black Vortex.

They survived the attack, and fled on Star-Lord's Bad Boy , subsequently coming across the Starjammers, who offered their help.

The Guardians and X-Men there escaped. When J'son recovered the Vortex, [50] he used it on his ally Thane , who proceeded to encase the entirety of Spartax in an amber construct, trapping its inhabitants in a state of living death.

Mister Knife had made a deal with the Brood , providing them of the host bodies necessary to reproduce, in exchange of taking part of their planetary conquest.

Peter and the rest of the Guardians traveled to the Earth to help defend it from a colliding alternate version of said planet, during the last of the phenomena known as incursions , which caused universes to collide.

The eventual collision between the two planets caused the total destruction of all of reality, with Star-Lord being the only survivor of his team, after being teleported by chance to a life raft that survived the end of the Multiverse.

Star-Lord and the other heroes in the raft were awakened after spending eight years in stasis, finding themselves in Battleworld , a patchwork planet composed of the remnants of several realities, ruled by the omnipotent God Emperor Doom with an iron fist.

Their welcomer was Doctor Strange , the Sorcerer Supreme of the previous universe who had helped Doom achieve goodhood, thus becoming his right hand and sheriff of Battleworld.

Star-Lord and the other heroes were later teleported and scattered across Battleworld by Strange, in order to prevent them from suffering the unfair wrath of Doctor Doom, who had recently learned of the existence of these interlopers.

Peter ended up in the domain of the Kingdom of Manhattan , a domain composed of the remains of the New York City of his former world. Looking for a place to hide from Doom, he ended up in a nightclub known as the Quiet Room, becoming a singer under the name of "Swingin' Stevie Rogers.

One day, Quill found a Kitty Pryde of an alternate reality in the midst of the Quiet Room 's clients. She was an agent of Valeria von Doom 's Foundation and was negotiating with Gambit the Collector to get an anomaly he had acquired, an "anomaly" being an object that could defy the doctrine of Doom, namely any evidence that pointed to the existence of something before this world.

Quill foiled the negotiations when he appeared to defend her against Gambit's flirtations. Gambit fled, taking the anomaly with him.

During the ensuing struggle, a device Pryde used to identify if an anomaly was authentic confirmed that Quill's origin was unknown, thus making him a living anomaly.

Surprised, Pryde handcuffed him to herself and decided to take him with her to further studies. In order to discover Gambit's whereabouts and retrieve the anomaly in his posession back, Pryde and Quill followed his trail to a museum in Midtown.

As it was the only thing left of Quill's home reality and a remaining part of his lost friend, Pryde let him keep it.

After kissing him, she departed for Doomstadt to report to her superiors. At some point in time, Peter traveled to the satellite Knowhere where he found his old teammates who had been recreated to recruit them in the fight against Doom.

Doctor Doom's reign was ultimately overthrown by Reed Richards, who managed to seize Doom's power and use it to begin recreating the lost Multiverse, including his native reality and all of its inhabitants, [62] but with no memories of their temporary demise.

Over the following months, Peter resumed his work as king. His overwhelming schedule, inexperience in politics, and desire to satisfy everyone; eventually pushed his friends away.

Angry at this, Rocket took the leadership position in the Guardians from Peter and left to resume their work. While they were there, a female accuser named Hala invaded Spartax and started destroying the planet in retaliation of Peter's supposed participation in the destruction of the Kree planet, Hala.

The female accuser defeated the Guardians and captured Peter, taking him hostage and promising the destruction not only of Spartax but Earth as well.

The Guardians could defeat him but plenty of damage was done and the people no longer trusted Peter. His delegates took advantage of this and ousted him from power, claiming he should answer for all the destruction caused on his watch.

Peter escaped with Kitty and rejoined the Guardians, once again, as a wanted man. Following a handful of misadventures, the Guardians travelled to Earth at the request of their friend Captain Marvel to help her during the second superhuman civil war , fighting on her behalf against the forces that opposed her led by Iron Man.

However, the damage had been done, and both Rocket and Drax decided to walk away. After defeating the Mad Titan and leaving him to the recently reinstated Nova Corps, the Guardians left the Earth on a makeshift ship built by Rocket.

The wounds of the previous betrayal didn't entirely heal, so the Guardians considered disbanding after carrying out a mission on the Grandmaster 's behalf.

A portion of her soul remained trapped within it, and Gamora wanted to free it. After helping the Nova Corps defend the Power Stone which had manifested in the planet Xitaung , which resulted in a fight during which Ant-Man became missing in action, [15] the Guardians took off with it and they were approached by Adam Warlock and Kang the Conqueror, who had joined forces to find the Time Stone and already had the Soul Stone in their possession.

Gamora attempted to force Warlock to hand over the Soul Stone, and a fight broke out. During the battle, Drax managed to hold it, but was exposed to the corruption of Soulworld.

He struck Gamora to prevent her from opening the gem, and departed with Warlock and Kang. In addition to Drax's betrayal, the other Guardians refused to follow Gamora into pursuing Kang.

Outraged by her teammates' behavior, Gamora left them to obtain the Soul Stone on her own. Under the pretense of agreeing a parley, Gamora met up with Star-Lord and switched the Power Stone in his possession with a fake, while she departed with the real one and encrusted a sword with it.

Claiming that "nothing ever dies," she impaled Peter with her sword to prevent his interference in her mission to claim the Soul Stone.

When the conflict ended, Gamora managed to obtain the remaining Infinity Stones. Using the Stones, Gamora folded the universe in half and fused the two halves together to form a pocket universe called Warp World , placing it in Soulworld within the Soul Stone.

When Emma Frost sent a telepathic call to various heroes to aid Adam Warlock in the fight against Devondra , the being that was responsible for Soulworld's corruption, Peet apparently received it.

After picking up the Warp World's version of Drax, [81] Peet flew to the battlesite, arriving just in time to rescue Gamora, who had been sent into Soulworld by Loki , from being devoured by Devondra.

The Cosmic Avengers eventually arrived with the Infinity Stones. Adam and the Cosmic Avengers then recreated the universe while also allowing Warp World to remain in existence.

Everyone then fled Soulworld while Drax stayed behind to keep the portal open. Obtaining a new ship Star-Lord named the Ryder , he and Groot aimlessly wandered space with Rocket noticeably missing with Quill becoming depressed over Gamora's betrayal and constantly drowned his sorrow in alcohol.

One day, Quill and Groot investigated an energy reading received by a member of the Nova Corps at the site of a meeting being held on Thanos' former ship the Sanctuary.

Upon arriving at the location of the reading, they discovered the hammer Stormbreaker pulling out Beta Ray Bill and alternate reality versions of Moondragon , Captain Marvel , and the Rider out of a black hole.

Stormbreaker smashed through the Ryder's front window, and Star-Lord and Groot helped pull in everyone in.

When the Nova Corps demanded that Star-Lord hand over the beings he rescued, Star-Lord refused and declared that they were his new crew.

Ghost Rider later left the team when Quill refused to do anything about Thanos' possible resurrection and joined the Dark Guardians.

Quill objected to Groot's mutiny, but Beta Ray Bil forced him to stand down. Peter decides to stay and try to learn everything he can while among the Ravagers.

Peter encounters the Fallen One , a former Herald of Galactus , and is almost killed defeating the entity. In addition, his vessel, Ship , is destroyed in the conflict.

Peter and the Fallen One are subsequently imprisoned in the intergalactic prison the Kyln. When the Kree homeworld of Hala is conquered by the Phalanx , Star-Lord leads a band of rebels against the invaders until the war is over.

They are "proactive" and try to end emerging galactic threats early, [39] but are unsuccessful at preventing a war between the Kree and Shi'ar.

During a war with an invading universe , Star-Lord and Nova are prepared to sacrifice themselves to defeat Thanos [40] but only Nova dies and Thanos escapes.

Peter decides to remain inactive for a time until he discovers his father was planning to pass a law that forbade any interaction of extraterrestrial or space origin with Earth.

Knowing this would be an open invitation for invasion, Peter decides to reform the Guardians with six members: Gamora , Rocket Raccoon , Groot , Drax the Destroyer , and Bug , along with himself, and start protecting Earth from any attack.

Soon they aid the Avengers against the returned Thanos. He is soon captured by the army of Spartax but he escapes imprisonment and broadcasts a video showing the unfairness of his father's reign.

During this mission Peter meets Kitty Pryde , and the two eventually have a romantic relationship. Peter is sent to Spartax where he confronts his father again and escapes after exposing once again his father's tyrannical reign.

A riot forms in the Empire and J'son is deposed as a consequence. Peter keeps a low profile and remains dedicated to his long distance relationship with Kitty.

Soon he discovers he is elected by the Spartax people to be their new emperor. Knife who had put a bounty on his head.

After being captured by Knife, he realizes Knife is J'son, his father. He escapes thanks to Kitty, and they spend some time together.

Peter convinces Kitty to stay in space with him. He decides to steal an important artifact from J'son as payback. Peter and Kitty were successful in stealing the artifact called The Black Vortex , but found themselves outnumbered by J'son's killing squad so they decided to call the X-Men and the remaining Guardians for help.

Knowing the artifact could give them the needed power to defeat J'son, Peter wanted everyone to submit to the Vortex to gain cosmic powers.

Kitty stood against the idea but some of their friends submitted anyway. After failing to stop them, the submitted cosmic warriors attacked Hala and Peter went with a team to help the Kree in the battle.

After some failed negotiations for the Vortex his team had to escape, but J'son found them and destroyed Hala in retaliation.

Peter escaped on time. After finding Spartax had been completely covered in amber by Thane, including Kitty, Peter lamented not having heard her since the beginning and apologize to her.

Kitty escaped thanks to her phasing powers and both had a reunion. Seeing no other way to defeat J'son and his cosmic empowered team, Peter tried to submit to the Vortex but after seeing the power would eventually make him push Kitty away, he refused.

Kitty ended up submitting and saving Spartax. After the war ended, Peter had a romantic talk with Kitty where he proposes to Kitty Pryde, a proposal which she accepts.

When the universe is facing its imminent end, Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy come to the world's final battle against the Children of Tomorrow.

In the end, he is one of the few survivors of the apocalypse aboard the Fantastic Four 's "life raft". The life raft that Star-Lord was on remained in cryostasis for the next eight years, until they are awakened by Doctor Strange , a new Thor, and Miles Morales.

Knowing they are the only hope of reviving the old universe, Strange casts a spell to spread the survivors across the world using the wind, with Doom vowing to find them.

Star-Lord ends up in the domain of Manhattan , where he gets a job singing in the popular club, "the Quiet Room", singing Disney songs, as Disney films never existed in Battleworld , using the alias of Steve Rogers to hide from Doom.

It is here that he runs into an alternate universe version of Kitty Pryde from the Age of Apocalypse universe , who is hunting down artifacts from before Battleworld's creation.

Gambit leaves, but Kitty uses a scanner to discover that Star-Lord is from before Battleworld's creation, and she plans to take him to Doom.

However, they are ambushed by a group of robots connected to Gambit. The two decide to steal an artifact that Gambit has, but it is a trap, and the two are captured.

Right before Gambit can kill them, a version of Drax appears. Drax originally hired Peter to work in the Quiet Room. Drax knocks out Gambit.

The three leave with the artifact secured. When they are safe the next morning, Kitty shows it to the two, only to find out its Rocket Raccoon's tail.

Star-Lord laments the death of his friend, and Kitty decides to allow him to keep it, as it is the one thing left of his old universe. Star-Lord thanks Kitty, who kisses him before heading back to her home of Doomguard.

Realizing the two are out of a job for abandoning the Quiet Room in the middle of a show, Star-Lord and Drax decide to go back into Star-Lord's old career as a thief.

He asks Drax if he knows a good geneticist, as he plans on using Rocket's tail to make a clone of his friend, possibly an army of them.

During the final stand against God Doom, Peter not only piloted a ship to take the two Reed Richards' to the heart of Castle Doom , but also managed to keep Black Swan occupied by using the last twig of Groot, kept in his pocket ever since the Incursions to be planted at the crucial moment.

Following the restoration of reality, Peter ascends to the throne of Spartax, with Rocket taking over leadership of the Guardians while Kitty under the alias Star-Lady and the Thing following the disbanding of the Fantastic Four while the Richards' family worked to restore the multiverse joins the team.

During the battle, the Guardians ship is destroyed which leaves them stranded on Earth. After Iron Man's faction leaves, Gamora overhears a conversation between Peter and Kitty in which she learns that Peter knew without telling the rest of the team that Thanos was on Earth the entire time they were there.

After stopping Gamora from storming into the Triskelion and killing Thanos, Gamora and the other Guardians leave Peter due to the secrecy.

Peter and Kitty then break off their engagement. Living alone in an apartment given to him by Abigail Brand , Peter calls Howard the Duck to try and have drinks with him, and Howard furiously hangs up.

He then finds Kitty and Old Man Logan in an art gallery, where Kitty shouts at him for carrying his guns into an art gallery with children.

Frustrated, Peter leaves. Logan then catches up to him and has drinks with him in a bar, where they fight hitmen, which attracts the attention of the police.

Logan flees the scene and Peter is captured. Peter is prosecuted by Matt Murdock , who argues that unlike other superheroes, Star-Lord was reckless and endangered civilians while causing substantial property damage.

The trial is interrupted by Brand, who gets the judge to reduce Peter's sentence to community service, to which Peter agrees.

Brand and Alpha Flight then give him a new skin-tight costume, and he is assigned to senior citizen Edmund Allen, a retired super-criminal named Silver Bandit.

After a day of bonding, Star-Lord is hired as a bartender at a bar for supervillains owned by Edmund's son.

Star-Lord is a master strategist and problem solver who is an expert in close-quarter combat, various human and alien firearms, and battle techniques.

He has extensive knowledge of various alien customs, societies, and cultures, and considerable knowledge about cosmic abstracts, such as Oblivion.

As Star-Lord, Peter Quill wears a suit that grants augmented strength and durability and the ability to travel through space. The character uses an "Element Gun", a special meta-pistol capable of projecting one of the four elements air, earth, fire and water.

Star-Lord shares a psychic link with his sentient space vessel, Ship. Ship is a sentient energy form.

She most often exists in the form of a starship but can alter her structure at will. She can travel through air, space and water.

She possesses many of the conventional starship accessories, including shields, energy blasters, advanced sensors, replicators able to form any kind of food, drink, etc.

She has proven capable of creating a human form, which she can then animate and use as a host. Even if completely destroyed, she is capable of restoring herself, since her true form is her consciousness.

In addition, she takes on a number of feminine characteristics, such as a mothering instinct for those she is partnered with.

They were interrupted when the Sovereign fleet arrived causing Drax, Gamora, and Mantis to fall out of the craft.

Mantis used her power to subdue Ego by putting him to sleep whilst Quill, Rocket, and Groot flew to the core to plant a bomb on Ego made from the batteries stolen from the Sovereign and Nebula and Yondu piloted the ship.

Quill defended the core from the Sovereign whilst Rocket gave Groot the bomb temporarily taking a break to ask if anyone had any tape to put over the death button.

He then argued with Rocket after the answer being 'no' with Groot running off whilst still being unsure about how to operate the bomb.

Quill continued to fight the Sovereign before being shot at and knocked back into the ship. When the ship exploded after Nebula hacked herself into the infrastructure, Quill floated down with Yondu commenting that the latter looked like Mary Poppins and assuring him that "he" was very cool.

Mantis was then knocked out by a piece of shrapnel which awoke Ego who began to fight the Guardians. After subduing all of them and then using his power to force Quill into reactivating the seedlings around the universe.

Both eventually collapsed, exhausted with Ego furiously trying to plead with Quill to help him, after discovering the bomb on his brain, telling him that with Ego dead, his powers will fade away and he will be rendered mortal.

Quill stated that he accepted this fact, much to his father's horror. He held him down as the bomb exploded, destroying Ego's brain and watched as his father's avatar passed away in his arms, while his Celestial powers seemingly faded away.

Without Ego's essence, the planet began to break down and collapse in on itself. Yondu saved Quill telling him that Ego may have been his biological father, but he wasn't his "daddy" before giving him the only spacesuit and dying in the vacuum of space.

After Yondu's death, Quill had come to realize that Yondu was the father figure in his life all along and he had always been searching for before Kraglin and the other Guardians burned the body as part of a Ravager funeral.

Kraglin gave Quill a 'Zune' that Yondu had bought for him that contained tracks that Earth was now listening to and Quill gave him Yondu's arrow.

Quill listened to his new Zune with Groot before noticing the arrival of the other Ravagers who had heard about Yondu's sacrifice and re-accepted him as one of their own.

Quill and the other Guardians watched as Yondu was honored with a proper Ravager funeral and Gamora hinted to Quill that she may reciprocate his feelings, with the two embracing.

Quill went into Groot's room, who was by now the size of a teenager with the same attitude, and complained at him to tidy up after himself and stop wasting his time playing a video game.

Peter returns in this film, where he and his teammates pick up Thor, who is floating in space due to Thanos attacking the Asgardians and obtaining the Tesseract.

Before they arrive on the colony, Gamora has Quill promise to kill her if Thanos ever captures her, with Peter promising. After rescuing Crystal, the Inhumans left and the Guardians were left to face the Imperial Guard, who wished to take over the station.

In Starhawk 's bleak future, she was finally able to convince them what she had been saying all along was true.

A massive fissure was consuming the universe and it had to be stopped. The two Guardians teams worked together to try to send a message back through time to warn that the fissure, known as the Fault, was actually caused during the War of Kings by Black Bolt.

With their time machine broken, they formed a new plan. The Badoon, who now ruled what little was left of the universe, had enslaved the Celestials and created what was called the Celestial Engine, used to keep the fissure at bay.

They send back their message and break the alignment of the Celestial Engine, causing the destruction of this future. To Star-Lord's surprise, this did not kill them.

They found themselves in a different time with a different set of Guardians. Another surprise: he was old enough to be his own grandfather.

The Starhawk of this future received messages from his previous selves and learned the truth. The team was adrift in time, which was causing their changes as well.

They formed a plan to find a time machine under Avengers Mansion , but once they got there they slipped through time once again.

And again. They finally arrived at an alternate future, one ruled by the Magus and the Universal Church of Truth. While battling the members of the Church, they had an unexpected guest: Kang the Conqueror.

He returned them to their normal states and took them to his headquarters in Limbo. He explained that all futures were becoming Magus futures and it was up to Star-Lord to stop this from happening.

Kang gave Peter a Cosmic Cube and told him that future must be saved at all costs. They were sent back to moments before Adam would turn into the Magus while repairing the Fault.

Star-Lord tried to talk to Adam, but the damage had been done. He had overlapped the time lines and essentially he had been the Magus for months.

Adam transformed and began his battle with the Guardians, who were all reunited. Adam told him that he must finish him, and to his own regret, Star-Lord shot and killed his friend.

The universe had been saved, but the price was very high. Adam managed to avoid death, however, and Magus continued in his service to Lord Mar-Vell , a Mar-Vell from a universe where death had lost and life had triumphed, resulting in a universe of immortal monsters.

The denizens of Lord Mar-Vell's universe, the Cancerverse , came out of the fault in order to consume the universe.

Drax, however, was driven mad due to the fact that he was an avatar of life in a universe where life had triumphed, and he tried to kill Thanos, who in turn vaporized him.

The Guardians and Thanos met up with the Machine Resistance, the unliving robotic denizens of the Cancerverse who were immune to Mar-Vell's conversion of his universe and fought to stop him ever since.

Thanos seemed to betray the Guardians when he submitted to Mar-Vell, but when Mar-Vell ran him through with a sword, Death appeared and, due to being summoned by Thanos, killed the entire Cancerverse and forced the Old Ones into a long-term coma.
